Dobbs Means the End of the Beginning in the Abortion Wars

The Supreme Court of the United States has issued its long-awaited ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Center. This decision sends Roe v. Wade to the ash heaps of history – along with other discredited SCOTUS opinions such as Dred Scott v. Sandford, Plessy v. Ferguson and Korematsu v. United States. This decision does not end abortion, nor does it end the cultural war over the sanctity of life. It does, in the words of Winston Churchill, mark the “end of the beginning” in this cultural conflict.Justice Samuel Alito said in his opinion: “We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely – the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”As expected, the left’s hyperbolic response reveals its radical nature.
